On July 11, 2019 Ambassador Jayatilleka paid a visit to the Polyclinic No. 1 of the Russian Academy of Science.
The Ambassador was received by the Director of the Policlinic Mr. Tsydypov Valeriy, who spoke about the half-century traditions of the policlinic, state-of-the-art equipment and advanced laboratory where more than 360 000 patients get the full range of modern diagnostic services and comprehensive and high standard medical care. Dr. Priyantha Bogamuwa, head of the commercial medical department and Ms. Yuliya Ryazanova, head of legal department were also present at the meeting. Dr. Bogamuwa, a Sri Lankan, received his higher medical education in Russia and now is with the Polyclinic as a General Practitioner.
The history of the Polyclinic begins in 1946, when by a Resolution of the Council of People's Commissars the hospital was given to the administration of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. The building was built before the revolution of 1905 and is considered as the cultural heritage site of federal significance “The complex of houses of the insurance society “Russia”. Its location, the fine front of the house and the 100-year old fireplaces are carefully preserved in the Polyclinic as evidence of the age of the building.
