Foreign Affairs Minister M U M Ali Sabry spoke with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, over the phone this morning (14 March 2024) to request assistance to facilitate the early repatriation of rescued Sri Lankan nationals currently in the Myawaddy area in Myanmar. The Thai Foreign Minister agreed to facilitate the repatriation of the rescued Sri Lankans via Thailand.
The eight Sri Lankans who are currently under the Myanmar government protection in the Myawaddy area in Myanmar have been provided with required assistance including meals and basic necessities with the facilitation of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Yangon. The Sri Lanka Embassies in Yangon and Bangkok are working together closely to ensure the safe and early repatriation of the Sri Lankans.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also continues to work towards the rescue and repatriation of the remaining Sri Lankans trapped in the Myawaddy area.
Referring to the successful visit of the Thai Prime Minister to Sri Lanka which took place in February this year, the two Ministers agreed to work on early implementation of the Sri Lanka-Thailand Free Trade Agreement (SLSFTA) and reciprocal visa free arrangement between the two countries. Strengthening cooperation in the areas of renewable energy and fisheries were also discussed during the telephone conversation.

දැනට මියන්මාර රජයේ ආරක්ෂාව යටතේ මියවඩි ප්‍රදේශයේ සිටින ශ්‍රී ලාංකිකයන් අට දෙනා හට ආහාර සහ අනෙකුත් මූලික අවශ්‍යතා සැපයීමට යැංගොන්හි ශ්‍රී ලංකා තානාපති කාර්යාලය පහසුකම් සලසා ඇත. යැංගොන් සහ බැංකොක්හි පිහිටි ශ්‍රී ලංකා තානාපති කාර්යාල මෙම ශ්‍රී ලාංකිකයන් ආරක්ෂිතව සහ කඩිනමින් ආපසු සියරට පිටත් කරවා හැරීම සඳහා අවශ්‍ය කටයුතු සම්පාදනය කරයි.
මියවඩි ප්‍රදේශයේ සිරවී සිටින ඉතිරි ශ්‍රී ලාංකිකයන් මුදාගෙන ආපසු සියරට ගෙන්වා ගැනීම සඳහා විදේශ කටයුතු අමාත්‍යාංශයද අඛණ්ඩව කටයුතු කරයි.
මෙම වසරේ පෙබරවාරි මාසයේදී සිදුවූ තායිලන්ත අග්‍රාමාත්‍යවරයාගේ සාර්ථක ශ්‍රී ලංකා සංචාරය පිළිබඳව සිහිපත් කරමින්, ශ්‍රී ලංකා-තායිලන්ත නිදහස් වෙළෙඳ ගිවිසුම කඩිනමින් ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීමට අවශ්‍ය කටයුතු කිරීමට සහ දෙරට අතර වීසා රහිත ගමනාගමනයට අවශ්‍ය විධිවිධාන සැලසීමට අමාත්‍යවරු දෙදනා එකඟ වූහ. පුනර්ජනනීය බලශක්ති සහ ධීවර ක්ෂේත්‍රවල සහයෝගීතාව ශක්තිමත් කිරීම පිළිබඳවද ඔවුහු දුරකථන සංවාදය අතරතුරදී සාකච්ඡා කළහ.
