MMMA youth center has been opened for the Maldivian community living in Sri Lanka.

According to an official from the Maldivian embassy in Colombo, the youth center was opened on Tuesday.

The newly opened center features billiard, table tennis, foosball and many other sources of entertainment for the Maldivian youth living in Sri Lanka, the official said. He also said that plans to build a futsal turf in the youth center are currently underway and that it is expected to be complete sometime this year.

“They can already play futsal here. We’re also planning on conducting life skills programs and awareness programs here soon,” the official said.

The youth center was inaugurated by youth minister Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal in a special ceremony that was held on Tuesday. The center is located at Sosun Villa – the former address of the Maldivian embassy in Sri Lanka.

Whilst a youth center for the Maldivians living in Sri Lanka was opened on Tuesday, Sosun Villa already hosts classes to teach Islam, Dhivehi and Quran for the Maldivian students residing in Sri Lanka. The government has also made it possible for the Maldivian students living in Sri Lanka to obtain their Secondary School Certificate (SSC) – awarded for the completion of secondary level Islam and Dhivehi – whilst remaining in Sri Lanka.
