YARL DEVI: to Jaffna to be resumed after 24 years

Sri Lanka’s popular Yarl Devi express train service which connects the North with the South will ply up to Jaffna Railway Station after 24 years since the service halted in 1990. The service was halted when the track was bombed by the LTTE and the rails and the sleepers were taken by the LTTE to be used in its bunkers. The service now runs up to Palai, The train will now go up to Jaffna on the newly built Northern Line which was undertaken by IRCON an indian credit line worth US$ 800mn.
