At a courtesy call, Consul General, Priyangika Dharmasena met with Ms. Zhang Liping, Deputy Counsel- Director, Ms. Aileen Xu, Director, International Affairs Department and other officials of the Guangzhou Municipal Commerce Bureau on 11.04.2019.
Consul General discussed with Ms. Zhang on trade and investment cooperation between the two countries. Ms. Zhang agreed for closer cooperation between the Bureau and Sri Lanka in promoting trade and investment. She said that 70% of China’s domestic gem and diamond processed in Guangzhou and the Bureau hopes to strengthen cooperation in the gem and jewellery sector through an e-commerce platform which is still under process.
As the visa process for businessmen visiting China is relatively long, Consul General Dharmasena requested Deputy Counsel –Director whether there is a possibility to shorten the process period for Sri Lankan businessmen applying for visas to China. Ms. Zhang agreed to look into the matter with the relevant authorities in China. She also gave concurrence to assist Sri Lanka to organize trade/business seminars in China.
