Commemorating 2561st birth anniversary of Lord Buddha, a special ceremony was held at Quan Su Pagoda, the Headquarters of the Viet Nam Buddhist Sanga on 10th May 2017.
The Embassy of Sri Lanka joined Quan Su Pagoda in celebrating Vesak, decorating the temple premises with colourful Sri Lankan style Vesak lanterns and lighting clay lamps.
In the main hall of the temple, a special ceremony was held with the participation of most Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu, Vice Standing Chairman of Viet Nam Buddhist Sanga, Venerable Thich Gia Qu Quang, Vice Chairman of Viet Nam Buddhist Sangha’s Executive Council, Ms. Truong Thi Mai, Politburo member, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Mass Mobilization Commission, Buddhist monks, representatives of many government organizations, Ambassadors and other diplomats of Embassies of Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, Indonesia, and Myanmar in Hanoi.
The Ceremony included prayers and speeches by Venerable dignitaries and a speech by Ms. Truong Thi Mai, Politburo member. The main activity of the ceremony was the bathing of the statue of Prince Siddhartha according to Vietnamese Buddhist traditions.
Meanwhile, the Embassy celebrated Vesak with the Sri Lankan community at the Pho Lin temple in Ha Noi on 6th and 7th May 2017 decorating the temple with Vesak lanterns and holding a “Dansala”, giving away food and drinks for the devotees who visited the temple on 7th May 2017.
