In association with the Embassy of India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brasilia organized a Vesak celebration at the Japanese Buddhist Temple in the city of Brasilia on 21st and 22nd May 2016.
In the event, Ven. Sato, Chief incumbent of the temple conducted sermons followed by speeches of General Jagath Jayasuriya, Ambassador for Sri Lanka, Ambassador of Myanmar and Mr. Igor Tokarshi, Secretary of International Relations on behalf of the Governor of the Federal District of Brasilia.
In this first ever historic Vesak celebration with a participation of around 300 guests, in his speech, General Jagath Jayasuriya Ambassador briefed the significance of Vesak and essence of Buddhism followed by donation of a replica of a sacred relic to the temple by the Embassy of Myanmar.
As this Vesak celebration with decorations and illuminations at the Japanese Temple was a unique experience to the city of Brasilia and Brazilians, they highly admired the event with great respect to Buddhism and recognized it as a great contribution to the multicultural society of Brasilia.
Further, It was indeed a different experience for the Brazilians since they got the opportunity to taste different food varieties prepared by Embassies in one place. The Embassy of India coordinated with all other Embassies to provide food varieties which was highly admired by the guests.
The Embassies, Japanese temple and their staff immensely contributed to make this event very successful.
