The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Tehran celebrated the day of Vesak on 15 May 2022 at the Chancery premises. The Ambassador and staff members of the Mission along with the Sri Lankan community assembled at the Embassy premises on that day and participated in the Vesak religious proceedings.
The programme commenced in the morning with an offering of Kiri Ahara Poojawa (offering milk rice) to the Buddha Statue followed by the evening session of the programme which commenced with kadala & Ceylon Tea Dansala. Pahan Pooja (offering of light) was inaugurated by the Ambassador and the Embassy premises was illuminated with oil lamps, lights, Vesak lanterns and decorations by the staff. Buddha Pooja including Gilanpasa pooja was also offered in the evening following Buddhists customs.
Devotional songs or “Bhakthi Geetha” by the Embassy staff and the members of the Sri Lankan community was the highlight of the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the Ambassador, G.M.V. Wishwanath Aponsu emphasized the importance of observing Vesak in a meaningful manner reflecting on Lord Buddha’s universal message of compassion, love, peace and harmony. The Ambassador also wished a better future for all Sri Lankans while booklets were gifted to all participants as a dhamma dana.
