The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brussels celebrated Vesak at the Official Residence on 22 May 2022 with the participation of Sri Lankan community in Belgium and Luxembourg. Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery in the Netherlands Venerable Kurunegala Anandagosa Thero and Chief Incumbent of the Thai Dhammarama temple in Belgium Venerable Wisuddhi Chotipratoom Thero conducted the religious programme.
As part of the Vesak Programme, Buddha Vandana followed by Dhamma Deshana, Sethpirith and Sangika Dhana were held.
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Belgium Grace Asirwatham in her address to the community highlighted the significance of the Vesak day and said that the Lord Buddha’s timeless teachings of peace, compassion and love are a treasure of bliss and a source of inspiration to all humanity. Further, referring to the ongoing grave economic crisis in Sri Lanka, Ambassador Asirwatham emphasised the need to work together to provide relief to the affected people in Sri Lanka at this critical time.
The staff of the Embassy performed Bakthi Gee which added splendour to the event. The Embassy and Official Residence premises were colourfully decorated with Buddhist flags, Vesak lanterns and lights in keeping with the traditions of Vesak celebrations.
