The government had betrayed the nation by appointing the very people who dismantled Yugoslavia to the panel of experts appointed to advise the Presidential Commission on Missing Persons, a former Sri Lankan diplomat said yesterday
Former Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations Office in Geneva Tamara Kunanayakam, pointed out that the international experts appointed to the advisory panel the very same persons who divided Yugoslavia into a number of nations.
“The government which won the war which had raged for over three decades managed miserably to bring about peace in the country,” Ms. Kunanayakam said. Furthermore, she said that the government had failed to effectively criticise the genocide carried out by Israel in the Gaza strip. “The government had only made a timid statement on the attacks in Gaza and had thereby shown that it was not prepared to join other nations in condemning Israel for its atrocities.
She thereby called for the dismantling the Israeli Embassy in Colombo.
Ms. Kunanayagam claimed that the government was using communalism just to feed its greed for power. She said that it was time for the people to come out to safeguard justice before it was too late.
