The Consul General and staff of the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Milan, participated in the Requiem Mass held at St. Stephen’s Church, in Milan, on 25th April 2019, which was offered for the repose of the souls, deceased in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday’s dreadful terrorist explosions of 21 April 2019.
The Arch Bishop of Milan, Monsignor Mario Delpini lead the Requiem Mass, which was organized by “Milan Kithunu Sangha”.
The service, which was organized to remember and honour the Sri Lankans and other nationals who became victims of the tragic event was participated by a large crowd comprised of Sri Lankans of all religions and ethnicities as well as Italian nationals. In addition to the Reverent Fathers of Sri Lankan, Italian and other nationalities, all the Nayaka Theros of Milan based Buddhist Temples, too, participated in the memorial service.
Consul General Denzil Fonseka, addressing the media after the event, said that there was never a dispute between Catholics and Muslims in Sri Lanka and they lived very peacefully without any problem over a period of five hundred years and this brutal attack is an unexpected and unbearable blow for all peace-loving people.
