The Embassy of Sri Lanka in France celebrated Christmas with Reverends Prabath Thamel and Janith Kaushalya at the Embassy premises on 20 December 2019.
The event started with a keynote speech delivered by Ambassador of Sri Lanka Buddhi K. Athauda who highlighted that “the spirit of Christmas is embodied in those who spread good cheer, warmth and happiness to the world”. Ambassador Athauda took this opportunity to congratulate the Embassy staff for achieving greater heights in bilateral and multilateral relations.
With regard to trade and commerce, the relationship with France has never been so strong. Indeed, a large number of French companies are now willing to come in Sri Lanka to invest in sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, aircraft and coco fiber. In addition, the consular section showed a growth of 266% in revenue. Ambassador Buddhi K. Athauda spoke to the employees of the Embassy and said that “it is time for them to reflect on what they have done for themselves, their family and their country”, encouraging them to celebrate their achievements and work harder to continue to improve themselves.
It was followed by a sermon by Reverend Prabath Thamel, who recalled the importance of the values of kindness and charity for others. He stated that the values of Christmas are expressed through our compassion towards others throughout our lives. The Reverend spoke of his own experience witnessing these values in action and gave Christmas blessings to all.
The Christmas party ended on a high note with a sumptuous Sri Lankan dinner.
