The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bahrain organizes an Ifthar

An Ifthar organized by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bahrain with the Sri Lankan Muslim community was held on 06 April 2023, at the official residence of the Ambassador of Sri Lanka.

The event commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Imam Farahat Mohammed Al Kindy, Head of Visitor Section of Ahmed Al Fateh Islamic Centre in Bahrain. Imam Al Kindy also performed the breaking of fast and led the Maghrib prayer.

Speaking at the occasion, the Ambassador-designate of Sri Lanka to Bahrain H.M.G.R.R.K. Wijeratne Mendis conveyed her greetings to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister His Royal Highness Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Government and the people of Bahrain on the occasion of Ramadan and highlighted the importance of the holy month of Ramadan with its core values of reflection and devotion, forgiveness and compassion.

Ambassador Wijeratne Mendis also took the opportunity to extend her gratitude to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister His Royal Highness Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Government and the people of Bahrain emphasizing Bahrain’s exemplary policy to provide vaccines to Bahrainis and expats alike during the Covid 19 pandemic, as a reflection of the humanitarian approach of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Representing the Sri Lankan Muslim community Ahmed Rifath spoke of the contribution of the community to Sri Lanka and Bahrain and expressed his appreciation to the Ambassador for hosting an Ifthar for the community. A Sri Lankan physician based in Bahrain Dr. Fathima Nasmy made a valuable speech focusing on health and nutrition while fasting during the holy month of Ramadan. The vote of thanks was delivered by Attaché of the Embassy Manula Kunadapperuma.

The traditional Sri Lankan Ifthar dinner organized by the Sri Lanka Embassy was attended by a cross section of the Sri Lankan Muslim community and other Sri Lankan religious communities. Member of the Council of Representatives of the Kingdom of Bahrain Mohamed Husain Janahi, Chief of Afro-Asian Affairs Ambassador Fatima Abdulla Fares Aldhaen and Director of Information and Follow up of the Capital Governorate Yusuf Yaqoob Lori and the officials of the Government of Bahrain attended the Ifthar. The event concluded with a traditional Sri Lankan Ifthar dinner organized by the Embassy of Sri Lanka.
