At the initiative of Sri Lanka High Commission in Islamabad, Giving Sight Foundation of Sri Lanka donated 65 human Corneas to the people of Pakistan. A delegation headed by the President of Giving Sight Foundation, Ifthikhar Aziz, Secretary General Fazal Lafir, Treasurer, Rizvi Ismail visited Pakistan from 24 - 28 August 2019 to handover the donations of said human Corneas to Prime Minister, Imran Khan and President Dr. Arif Alvi.
The delegation met with Prime Minister Khan on 26 August 2019 and handed over a donation of 50 human corneas. While appreciating this generous donation, the Prime Minister stated that the initiative to provide corneas is a great meritorious act that enables people to regain their eye sight. He also expressed satisfaction over the growing connectivity between the people of the two countries. The Prime Minister further stated that Pakistan deeply value its close and friendly relations with Sri Lanka which had been nurtured over decades through a continuous interaction at bilateral regional and international level.
The Sri Lanka delegation thanked the Prime Minister for his welcome and mentioned that the donation of corneas from the people of Sri Lanka would help strengthen the friendship between the two Nations. Sri Lanka High Commissioner Noordeen Mohamed Shaheid, President of Centre for Global Strategic Studies Major General Jaffery and the Foreign Secretary of Pakistan were also present at the occation.
The High Commissioner and the delegation of Giving Sight Foundation of Sri Lanka had a cordial meeting with the President of Pakistan on 28 August 2019; and handed over a donation of 15 human Corneas to the President on this occasion.
Sri Lanka has so far donated 24965 human corneas to Pakistan. Giving Sight Foundation pledged to send another 35 human Corneas to the President of Pakistan through the High Commission of Sri Lanka to make it 25000 before the end of this year.
