On 24 February 2023, the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai organised a one-week-long Sri Lankan Food Festival and Cultural Programme in collaboration with JW Marriott, Juhu, Mumbai. The week-long event from 24 February 2023 to 02 March 2023 was organised to commemorate the 75th National Day of Sri Lankan at a larger scale attended by approximately 200 guests.
The opening dinner of the Food Festival on 24 February was attended by the Consuls General from different countries posted in Mumbai and other eminent persons from Mumbai’s trade, education, tourism and business sectors at the invitation of the Consul General of the Mission, Dr Valsan Vethody.
The stage was decorated with colourful traditional masks, Sri Lankan tourism promotion picture frames and a variety of Ceylon tea .In addition, a separate live counter offering Ceylon tea to the guests and a stall displaying Sri Lankan spices to showcase the rich quality of our spices was arranged. Moreover, the Mission provided boxes of Ceylon tea to the hotel for the large number of guests that attended the festival during the week. The food festival featured authentic Sri Lankan dishes prepared by two Sri Lankan chefs who were flown down to Mumbai from Marriott, Weligama and Sheraton, Kosgoda.
The highlight of the Festival was the Cultural Programme by Sri Lankan dancers in colourful Sri Lankan costumes who danced to traditional music.The mission presented the guests with a gift bag that included a Dankotuwa mug with the Sri Lankan flag printed on it, Dilmah tea, Minah tea, a tourism brochure and a tourism map by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau. The children present at the event were given Sri Lankan decorative elephant souvenirs.
The members of the diplomatic community and other eminent persons congratulated the Mission for a well-organised and successful event.
