The Consul General of Sri Lanka in Toronto Thushara Rodrigo participated in the celebration of the 15th Anniversary of the Markham Cricket Academy and the Awards Night 2023 recently held in Markham at the invitation of the President, founder and the Head Coach of the Academy Gerard Rajendram.
The Prime Minister of Canada and the Premier of Ontario sent their congratulatory messages and video messages for the celebration recognizing the great contribution of the academy towards promoting cricket in Canada and grooming a squad of young players for the Canadian national cricket team. The Mayor of Markham His Worship Frank Scarpitti, Canadian National Coach, former Sri Lankan veteran cricketer Pubudu Dasanayake attended the ceremony.
Addressing the gathering the Consul General conveyed his congratulations and best wishes to the award winners. He commended that the hard work and the dedication of the founder of the cricket academy has expanded the boundaries and enriched the sporting landscape in Canada. The Consul General also added that the Markham Cricket Academy will become a pioneering academy to connect Canada with other cricket playing nations across the globe in the future.
The Markham Cricket Academy is the leading cricket academy in Toronto established by a Sri Lankan Canadian opening opportunities to many young talented players to be nurtured under great coaching staff to their highest levels. More than fifty high caliber young players of the academy were awarded for their excellent performance during the year 2023. More than five hundred visitors attended the ceremony.
