The Belt and Road Youth competition hosted by the Silk Road Cities Alliance was held on 12-13 April 2019 in Beijing with the participation of youth from 70 Belt and Road countries. Eight Sri Lankans participated in the competition which was held under the categories of Music, Painting, Chinese Oratory, English Oratory, Research Publications and Photography.
Sri Lanka secures two bronze trophies and one merit award. The bronze trophy was for music and Silk Road Young Voice Musician and band category was won by Baladurage Nipuna Sripathi for a original composition he composed as a Jingle for China Radio International.
Ms. Jayamini Bimali Koongolla won a bronze trophy for English oratory. Ms. B.M.H. Vineetha Iroshani won a merit award for sand painting. Some of the highlights of the competitors were solo singing where songs of 70 languages were performed. The Musicians and band category the most popular band was from Ecuador, most popular male singer was from Zimbabwe and most popular female singer was from Croatia.
