The Temasek Foundation of Singapore donated 300,000 Livinguard face masks to the Sri Lanka Administrative Service Association, as part of their COVID-19 relief programme.
The consignment of masks were delivered to Sri Lanka Administrative Service Association (SASA) on 3 March 2021, and are expected to be to be distributed among district and divisional level public officers including front line field officers who closely work with the general public.
The donation was made by the Temasek Foundation as a result of a request made by High Commissioner of Sri Lanka Sashikala Premawardhane to Chief Executive Officer of the Temasek Foundation International Benedict Cheong.
Livinguard masks are produced in Sri Lanka by the apparel conglomerate MAS Holdings, to be used in Singapore and beyond, as a result of the cooperation between the two countries. According to the manufacturer, these masks are produced using patented antiviral technology, and can be reused 210 times.
Sri Lanka apparel manufacturing industry has gained a strong reputation worldwide for ethical manufacturing of high-quality apparels trusted by the iconic global fashion brands. Sri Lanka’s apparel and textile manufacturing industry is the most significant and dynamic contributor to Sri Lanka’s economy and during the pandemic demonstrated its agility and adaptability by successfully switching to the production of personal protective wear and equipment including facemasks and PPE.
The Temasek Foundation earlier donated one million Livinguard face masks, a large number of Fortitude PCR test kits, 50 Oxygen Concentrators, 50 ResMed BiPAPs, 25 Medtronic Ventilators and PPE items, to the Government of Sri Lanka, helping its battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since 2009/10, the Temasek Foundation has conducted 14 single country programs in Sri Lanka. These programs have resulted in the capacity building of professionals in the education, healthcare and many other sectors. 1618 Sri Lankans have participated in these programs, and cascading participant figure exceeds four thousand individuals.
