The Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB) in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission in Chennai organized the Sri Lankan MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events) Promotion events in Chennai and Bangalore on 16 September and 18 September 2019 respectively. The Chairman, Sri Lanka Convention Bureau Kumar De Silva led the fifteen member of Sri Lankan MICE trade delegation to India.
This programme was held with the objective to familiarize Sri Lanka as a cost efficient and attractive destination for global conferences, corporate events and wedding ceremonies. Further, these events gave more opportunities for representatives of Mice tourism sector of both the countries, to establish direct cooperation with each other, learning more about the respective markets and exploring opportunities for mutual contribution towards further growth of the number of Indian MICE tourists, visiting Sri Lanka.
The Deputy High Commissioner V.Krishnamoorthy in his opening remarks stated that Sri Lanka is not a virgin market for the Indian tourists however in MICE segments India have not fully exploited Sri Lanka’s potential on the sector and he encouraged the Indian MICE tour operators and Sri Lankan companies to work closely together, as they represent one of the major ties between the two countries. Chairman/SLCB made a presentation highlighting Sri Lanka’s MICE attractions and Area Managers of the Sri Lankan Airline office in Chennai and Bangalore S.P.Mohan and Dimithra De Alwis respectively made presentations emphasizing the air connectivity of Sri Lankan Airlines to Southern India.
More than 80 Indian corporate sector companies and MICE tourist agents attended the events in each city. The Programme was coordinated by Senior Manager/SLCB, Malkanthi Welikkala and Minister (Commercial) of the Sri Deputy High Commission in Chennai.
