Sri Lanka’s 76th Independence Day commemorated in Shanghai

The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Shanghai celebrated 76th Independence Day of Sri Lanka on 04 February 2024 at the chancery premises under the patronage of Consul General of Sri Lanka to Shanghai  Anura Fernando. The occasion was attended by Sri Lankans living in Shanghai and other Chinese well wishers.

The event was commenced with playing the national anthems of both countries followed by the religious observances conducted by Ven. Dhammadara Thero. The lighting of the traditional oil lamp took place with the participation of Consul General Anura Fernando and representatives of both Sri Lanka and Chinese communities. Thereafter, Independence Day messages of the President, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka were read by the Consul General and the staff of the Consulate.

The Consul General in his speech emphasized the need of the Sri Lankan community in overseas to join hands together to rebuild Mother Sri Lanka in line with the path initiated by President Ranil Wickramasinghe.

The event was concluded by serving traditional milk rice and varieties of Sri Lankan sweetmeats to the participants.
