Ambassador M. Rizvi met Rector of the prestigious Istanbul University Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak on 28 July 2021 at the Office of the Rector and exchanged views on ways and means to establish cooperation between the Istanbul University and prominent Universities in Sri Lanka for student, academic exchange programmes and to conduct joint research.
The Rector Ak shared information about academic programmes, faculties & departments of the University, details of the students, university’s international network, researches & journals published by the University. The Rector Ak further elaborated quality of the academic & degree programmes currently conducted by the university and information on the prominent personalities produced by the İstanbul University, including two Turkish Nobel Prize winners Orhan Pamuk and Aziz Sancar, who studied and conducted their researches in the University.
Istanbul University is the first University established in Turkey after the conquest of Istanbul by the Ottoman Sultan, Fatih Sultan Mehmet in 1453 with an aim to transform the city into an international center for culture, trade and science & technology, innovations and defense. University has 20 faculties, 3 colleges and 3 institutes within the campus premises and currently 70,000 students are enrolled to follow internal/formal university programmes while 48,000 students are registered for distance learning. The Ambassador had a brief tour within the University complex and a detailed briefing was given by Istanbul University Corporate Communications Coordinator Dr. Elif Kahraman.
Minister Counsellor (Commercial) Yoshitha Jayasuriya, Public Relations Officer of the Embassy Betül Elif Uğramaz, Head of Istanbul University International Academic Relations Unit Associate Dr. Ayşe Zişan Furat, and Istanbul University Corporate Communications Coordinator Dr. Elif Kahraman attended the meeting.
