Ribbon cutting ceremony by the Chief Guests, H.E. the Ambassador together with Sri Lankan community
Under the Economic Diplomacy initiative of the Government of Sri Lanka, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beirut organized a Sri Lankan Trade Exhibition and Food Fair on 24th of September, 2017 at the Embassy premises in collaboration with the Sri Lankan community living in Lebanon.
The event provided the opportunity for the Sri Lankan community to display and promote Sri Lankan food items, handicrafts, beverages, vegetable and clothing. Addressing the gathering Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Lebanon Mrs. H.M.G.R.R.K. Wijeyaratne Mendis spoke on the government’s initiative on Economic Diplomacy by which Sri Lanka Missions abroad are directed to organize trade promotion, tourism promotion and cultural promotion activities together with the Sri Lankan Community. She further highlighted that participating in events of this nature would be beneficial for the Sri Lankan community in enhancing their livelihood skills and entrepreneurship.
The exhibition and food fair was inaugurated by Ambassador Wijeyaratne Mendis, and other guests of honour; Engineer Joud Ghantous of Kostras.a.n.l. & Marly Jewellery companies, Mr. Dinesh Maurya, General Manager of Land Mark Company, Ms. Noha Rukoss, Awareness Project Officer of Caritas Lebanon, Mr. V Sritharan, President of Kerala Welfare Association, Mr. Ashok Kumar, Computer Specialist of Land Mark Company together with members of Sri Lankan Ekamuthu Sansadaya, Mr. Dammika Pathirana, Mrs. Malkanthi Silva, Mrs. Malani Kande Arachchi, Mr. Kawinda Lakmal and Mr. Susantha Durage.
The Sri Lankan community also organized a lottery draw, proceeds of which would be utilized to assist Sri Lankans in distress.
