Sri Lankan Interfaith Community Iftar in Sydney

 The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Sydney together with Austra Lanka Muslim Association (ALMA) organised an Interfaith Iftar on Saturday, 18th May 2019 at Blouza Hall, Granville.

A series of interfaith religious events were organised by Sri Lankans and friends of Sri Lanka in Sydney aftermath of Easter Sunday terror attack on innocent Sri Lankans.  In line with building religious harmony among Sri Lankan diaspora, the Consulate General office joining with ALMA organised an Interfaith Sri Lankan community Iftar inviting the other community members from Sri Lanka Association of New South Wales, Tamil Seniors Association, Sri Lankan Australian Malay Association, Ceylon Society of Australia and the Sri Lankan Catholic Association of New South Wales.

In his brief address, Consul General Lal Wickrematunge emphasised the importance of the religious harmony at  crisis times. As we condemn any form of terrorism and hate speech, it is the responsibility of all Sri Lankan citizens to come together in solidarity in re-uniting our motherland and of course a multi-ethnic and multi-religious country, he said.

The guest speaker Dr. Mohomed Zamri, an Islamic scholar in Australia made the key note address at the gathering. Mr. Nilam Mohamed, President of ALMA also spoke at the occasion.

The programme concluded with traditional breaking of fast and religious prayers. Around 400 Sri Lankans living in Sydney participated at the event.
