The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai hosted a ten day Food Festival at The Leela Mumbai from 30 August to 8 September 2018 to showcase authentic Sri Lankan cuisine. The Food Festival was a part of the series of events that the Consulate organises to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Diplomatic relations between India and Sri Lanka.
The event was organised in association with The Leela Mumbai, Sri Lankan Airlines, Mount Lavinia Hotel and Cinnamon Hotels and Resorts in Sri Lanka.
The celebrated culinarians, Chef Deshabandu Dr. Pubilis Silva of the Mt. Lavinia Hotel and Chef Sunanda Kumar of the Cinnamon Lodge Habarana, Sri Lanka were specially brought down to present enticing spread of Sri Lankan dishes. The ten day festival offered a wide display of authentic Sri Lankan vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, popular desserts and sweets, including hoppers, Kottu Roti, Fish Ambul Thiyal, Brinjal Pahie, Watalappan, Kevum etc.
Senior representation from the Government of Maharashtra, diplomats, business community, travel trade, sponsors and media attended the inauguration of the Sri Lanka Food Festival on 30 August at the Leela Mumbai.
The event was followed by three Sri Lanka Tourism Road Shows held in Pune, Rajkot and Surat on 4,5 and 11 September 2018 respectively, to promote Sri Lanka as the most preferred destination in Asia for Indian travelers.
