Sri Lankan Expatriates in Qatar win the award of Outstanding Community

 The Sri Lankan Community in Qatar won the award of outstanding community at the International Workers’ Day celebration organised by the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs of Qatar held on 01.05.2019 in Doha.

Yousuf Mohamed Al Othman Fakhroo, Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs of Qatar presented the award. On behalf of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Doha Rasika Jayasinghe, Counsellor received the award.

The award was given to the Sri Lankan community in recognition of the exceptional contribution made by them in the progress and development of Qatar. The following aspects were taken into consideration for honouring the award; the involvement of the Embassy in dispute settlement; quality and the behaviour of the workers; and the involvement of the Government of Sri Lanka in facilitating the recruitment of employees.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Fakhroo stated that Qatar has been witnessing comprehensive progress in all areas, including economic, developmental and social fields and that the expatriates are part of this development. Qatar is committed to providing due care and protection to all workers, the Minister added.

Senior Government Officials, representatives of the International Labour Organization (ILO), representatives of private companies and non-governmental organizations, and members of the expatriate communities were present at the event.
