Sri Lankan Community in Singapore Holds Memorial Service for the Easter Sunday Victims in Sri Lanka

More than five hundred members of the Sri Lankan community in Singapore together with the Singaporean friends gathered in the heart of the city at Ceylon Sports Club grounds on 4th May 2019 to pray for the victims of the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka.

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore in collaboration with several Associations/Organizations of Sri Lankan expatriates namely, Ceylon Sports Club, Lanka Lions Cricket Club, Singapore- Sri Lanka Business Association, Singapore Sinhala Association, Ceylon Tamils’ Association, Singapore Sinhala Buddhist Association and Sri Senpaga Vinayagar Temple organized this memorial event. Religious dignitaries representing Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity and Islam offered prayers in remembrance of the victims.

Addressing the gathering, Acting High Commissioner, O.L. Ameerajwad stated that the edifice of the Sri Lankan society is well founded on teachings of different religions/faiths, which have been followed by the Sri Lankans for centuries. The Acting High Commissioner also stressed that heinous crimes perpetrated by misguided terrorists should not be allowed to weaken the fabric of this society. He called for unity and solidarity with the Government and the people of Sri Lanka to take all necessary measures to defeat terrorism and to emerge stronger as a vibrant, responsible and resilient society in the years ahead.
