A high -level delegation of Sri Lankan Buddhist monks headed by Most Venerable Karagoda Uyangoda Maithri Murthi Maha Nayaka Thero of Amarapura Nikaya, attended the 25th Anniversary Silver Jubilee ceremony of International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University in Myanmar, on 09 December 2023 at the historic Mahapasana Cave, Yangon, Myanmar. Most Venerable Medagama Dhammanandha Thero, the Secretary General of Asgiriya Chapter Siyam Nikaya was also included in the delegation. On an official invitation of the Myanmar Government, the delegation arrived in Myanmar on 05 December 2023.
During their stay in Myanmar, the delegation attended an International Buddhist Conference on 7 – 8 December, which was organized by the International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University (ITBMU) to discuss the global challenges.
On 09 December 2023, the Silver Jubilee Ceremony was held on a grand scale. A large number of Buddhist monks headed by the Secretary of the State Sangha Nayaka Committee of Myanmar, the Religious Affairs Minister and other high dignitaries of the Myanmar government, diplomats, and academia attended the ceremony.
On behalf of the Maha Sangha in Sri Lanka, Most Venerable Karagoda Uyangoda Maithri Murthy Maha Nayaka Thero delivered a congratulatory speech. Representing all the diplomats, Ambassador Janaka Bandara delivered a congratulatory speech.
