Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Jordan Priyangika Wijegunasekara had a productive meeting with Chairman of the Jordan Businessmen Association (JBA) Hamdi Tabba’a at the JBA office in Amman last week.
The JBA comprises 274 members of senior businessmen in Jordan who are active in different economic sectors including industry, commerce, agriculture, construction and tourism.
During the meeting, Ambassador Wijegunasekara expressed Sri Lanka’s commitment and readiness to improve trade relations with Jordan and encouraged the diversification of products traded by the two countries.
The Ambassador and the Chairman discussed ways of materializing the agreement signed between the National Chamber of Exporters (NCE) of Sri Lanka and JBA in 2021, which will help to increase the bilateral trade volume.
The Chairman expressed JBA’s readiness to receive the proposed business delegation from the NCE and to facilitate a B2B meeting between the Sri Lankan delegation and JBA members. The Ambassador suggested organizing a preparatory virtual meeting between the NCE and the JBA to make the visit successful. Additionally, both parties agreed to identify potential areas or sectors for the B2B platform and to strengthen collaboration to increase trade and investment between the two countries.
The Ambassador and the Chairman agreed to remain in close contact on future activities in order to further strengthen cooperation.
Director General Tariq Z. Hijazi, and Secretary General Eng. Abed Al Rahim Boucai, and Second Secretary of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jordan Gajithra Navan also attended this meeting.
