Sri Lanka represented at the Presidential Inauguration Ceremony in El Salvador

The Inauguration Ceremony of the newly elected President of El Salvador, Salvador Sanchez Ceren took place at the International Fair & Convention Centre in San Salvador on 01st June 2014 amid a large gathering of foreign dignitaries including Heads of State & Government, Vice Presidents, Prime Ministers, Foreign Ministers, Special Envoys and diplomats. Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Cuba, Sarath Dissanayake who is concurrently accredited to El Salvador represented Sri Lanka on this occasion.

At the ceremony,   Vice President Sanchez who was elected President on 9th March 2014 was sworn in as the President of El Salvador by the President of the National Assembly, Sigfrido Reyes who administered the constitutional oath of office in the presence of the outgoing President Mauricio Funes. Thereafter, President Sanchez was presented with the Presidential Sash. Delivering his inaugural address to the nation, President Sanchez pledged to usher in a new era for the people of El Salvador. Also sworn in at the ceremony was the new Vice President of El Salvador, Oscar Ortiz, who was the Mayor of Santa Tecla city in El Salvador.

After the inauguration, Ambassador Dissanayake greeted both President and the Vice President of El Salvador and conveyed the felicitations and best wishes of the President , Government and people of Sri Lanka to them. Mean while, President Mahinda Rajapaksa has sent a message of felicitations to President Sanchez on his election victory and inauguration as the new President of El Salvador.

During his brief stay in El Salvador, Ambassador Dissanayaka met with senior officials of the El Salvador Foreign Ministry and discussed matters of mutual interest to both countries.
