The Sri Lanka Tea Board with the assistance of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Israel organized Sri Lanka’s participation in the 34th International Exhibition for Food and Beverages held from 28th to 30th November 2017 at the Israeli Trade Fairs & Convention Center in Tel Aviv. This was the first time that Sri Lanka participated in this International Exhibition.
At the Press Conference organized by the organizers of ISRAFOOD, Ambassador Selvaraj briefed the Press regarding the history of Ceylon Tea and varieties of tea that are being produced by Sri Lanka. He further emphasized that Sri Lanka’s tea is very famous around the globe due to its unique flavor, aroma and colour and stated that Sri Lanka is the world’s fourth largest tea producer. The Sri Lankan tea industry commenced its cultivation in 1867 and celebrated the 150th anniversary of Ceylon tea in 2017.
Seven tea growing regions of Nuwara Eliya, Uda Pussellawa, Dimbula, Uva, Kandy, Sabragamuwa and Ruhuna were displayed at the Sri Lanka stall and freshly brewed “Ceylon Tea” was offered to the participants.
Mr. Tishan De Silva, Market Promotion Officer represented the Sri Lanka Tea Board and explained the importance of Ceylon tea and its benefits, to the visiting participants.
Sample tea packs and information on Sri Lanka tea were also distributed among visitors.
