Hanoi People’s Committee in collaboration with the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organizations held a celebration on 13 & 14 July 2019, in line with the completion of 20 years after Hanoi gaining the title “City of Peace” from UNESCO in 1999.
Charge d’Affairs a.i of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Hanoi P.K. Boomawlage, took part in the opening ceremony of the “Friendship Village” on 13 July 2019 which was followed by the conference on “Hanoi City for Peace – 20 years of Integration and Development”.
Sri Lanka Embassy was invited to do a country presentation during these celebrations. This was a golden opportunity to promote Sri Lanka among the Vietnamese, just after the removal of the travel advisory on Sri Lanka from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam. Sri Lanka booth displayed the country’s history, story of Ceylon Tea, tourist attractions in Sri Lanka etc. It included a tea tasting session and a quiz for children on Sri Lankan Heritage.
