Sri Lanka Participate in the Fine Food Exhibition– 2017 in Sydney, Australia

Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Sydney in collaboration with Sri Lanka Tea Board and the Coconut Development Authority organised Country Pavilions at this year’s Fine Food Australia Exhibition. Fine Food Australia, the premier exhibition for the Food Industry that showcases the latest products and attracts buyers from distributors, importers, restaurants, confectionary manufacturers, retailers and other food businesses across Australia, was held from 11th to 14thSeptember, 2017 at the International Convention Centre, Sydney.

 

Three Sri Lankan Tea Exporters namely, Eswaran Brothers, Shan Teas and Basilur Ltd. were housed in the Tea Board pavilion while five coconut products Exporters namely, N D C Exports, A S Agri Exports, Serendipol Ltd, AdamjeeLukmanjee & Sons and Coco Ceylon Exports participated at the Coconut Development Authority stand. In addition, four Sri Lankan Exporters of coconut products organised their stalls individually. Chairman, Coconut Development Authority led the Coconut Exporters of Sri Lanka to the Exhihition.

 

This year’s Fine Food Exhibition in Sydney attracted more than 20,000 food industry traders and professionals. The Exhibition featured products from over 1,000 brands across a range of categories including general and speciality food, catering equipment, coffee, tea, dairy, meat, seafood, retail and technology, natural & organic products. The Exhibition provided the opportunity for the visitors to explore new ideas and experience innovations and new technologies pertaining to food industry.

 

On 12thSeptember 2017, the Consulate General, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tea Board organised a Business Breakfast Networking for the Sri Lankan Tea at the Harbour View Hotel in Sydney. Thirty Five participants including Tea Traders, members from the New South Wales Business Chamber, Australia-Sri Lanka Business Council, Catering & Restaurant Industry Association of Australia, Export Council of Australia and selected Media personnel attended the Networking Session.

 

Consul General of Sri Lanka in Sydney Lal Wickrematunge and Consul Commercial, Abdul Raheem addressed the gathering while Ms Premala Srikantha, Director, Tea Board made a presentation on Ceylon Tea and proposed promotional plan for Ceylon Tea in Australia.  Officials from the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Canberra and the Coconut Development Authority were also present at the meeting.

 

Australia is one of the major buyers of Ceylon Tea and Sri Lankan coconut products such as desiccated coconut and virgin coconut oil. Sri Lanka’s participation in the Fine Food Exhibition provided an ideal opportunity for further expansion of these products to the Australian market.
