The 71st Sri Lanka National day was celebrated at the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Jeddah on 04th February 2019 at the Consulate premises at a grand scale with the participation of over 400-500 Sri Lankan expatriate's community & prominent persons in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The function commenced by hoisting National flag by His Excellency Justice A.W.A. Salam, Consul General. Subsequently, students of the Sri Lanka International School in Jeddah recited the National Anthem in Sinhala and Tamil and followed by the chanting Jayamangalgatha.
To Mark the Sri Lanka National Day , Essay Competition and Oratory competition were conducted by the Sri Lanka International School under the theme “Vision of the Sri Lanka National Day” and winners of the competitions were awarded gifts and certificates .Apart from the above, an exhibition of the school children was also held at the Consulate premises . In continuation of the National Day celebration, a cultural show will be held on 08th February 2019 at this consulate premises.
Speaking at this occasion, His Excellency Justice A.W.A. Salam, Consul General stated that we all have gathered here on behalf of our motherland, disregarding cast, creed, status and political affiliations. Today Sri Lankans all over the world celebrate 71st National day. He further said that it is such an important, event where the Staff of the Consulate and myself are proud to join the Sri Lankans who are living in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to celebrate this important event. He further stated that our gratitude should be extended to all patriotic/heroes who scarified their lives and fought to gain independence to our motherland and those who thereafter fought to safeguard the independence in the recent past.
At the end of the ceremony, participants were served with the Sri Lankan traditional food.
