Sri Lanka Mission in Malé celebrates Independence Day

The Sri Lanka High Commission in Malé, Maldives celebrated the 67th  Independence Day on a grand scale on 4th February 2015.  Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. 

Foreign Minister Maumoon highlighted the close and warm relations between Sri Lanka and Maldives which have blossomed in recent years.  She extended warm wishes to President Maithripala Sirisena, and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the people of Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner Neil Dias spoke of the necessity for closer cooperation in the Indian Ocean region and for securing and fostering trade within the region. 

Highlights of the event were performances by a Sri Lankan cultural troupe to provide a taste of the diverse cultural heritage of Sri Lanka.

Over 350 Sri Lankan expatriates along with high ranking Maldivian officials, business leaders and well-wishers participated at the event.
