H.E. Shehan Ratnavale High Commissioner in Pretoria visited Mauritius between 21 st - 24 th April 2013 and presented credentials to H.E. President Rajkeswur Purryag concurrently accrediting him as the new High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Mauritius.
Being Indian Ocean Islands Mauritius and Sri Lanka share many commonalities and in addition to being active members of the Indian Ocean Rim Association for Regional Cooperation (IOR – ARC), Mauritius will be hosting the next Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting (CHOGM) after Sri Lanka.
During the High Commissioner’s visit he had several Ministerial meetings, which addressed cooperation in areas such as aviation, education and tourism, an in view of investment interest from hospitality sector companies as well as due to the around 2000 Sri Lankan workers employed in Mauritius’s garment sector; both countries are exploring formalising agreements in aviation, employment and invest protection.
It is envisaged that Ministerial visits between the countries in the near future, will serve to strengthen cooperation.
