Sri Lanka High Commission in the UK Hosts Live Broadcast of President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s Special Statement to the Nation

Under the guidance of High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the United Kingdom Rohitha Bogollagama, a special live broadcast of President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s Special Statement to the nation was held at the High Commission premises. The event was attended by a select group of well-wishers amongst the UK polity, including the members of the Advisory Council of Sri Lanka’s Interests (ACSLI) appointed by the High Commission.

Following the broadcast, High Commissioner Rohitha Bogollagama addressed the attendees, sharing his reflections on Sri Lanka’s transformational economic trajectory over the last two years. Referring to the Government of Sri Lanka entering into a MoU with its bilateral lenders’ Official Creditor Committee [OCC] on debt restructuring and a separate agreement with the Exim Bank of China for debt treatment, High Commissioner Bogollagama praised President Wickremesinghe as one of Asia’s most senior statesmen, noting that his extensive experience and insight have been pivotal in steering Sri Lanka towards a positive economic trajectory. He emphasized that the country possesses both the capacity and competence to continue moving forward.

High Commissioner Bogollagama also highlighted the Sri Lankan Government's unwavering commitment to its social responsibilities, outlining the various initiatives undertaken to enhance the welfare of the people. He also took the opportunity to acknowledge the significant contributions of the Bank of Ceylon, which played a crucial role in the nation’s economic recovery.

The gathering proceeded with an engaging discussion, where attendees   congratulated the Government of Sri Lanka on steering the country towards economic stability. Participants also underscored Sri Lanka’s steadfast commitment to upholding democracy.
