The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore joined hands with the Sri Lankan Catholic community to commemorate the spirit of Christmas through two joyous celebrations held on 18 and 22 of December 2023. The events featured special Mass Service, carols, and gatherings of the Sri Lankan Catholic community both at the High Commission premises and at the Church of St. Alphonsus (Novena Church) in Singapore.
The Sri Lankan Choir and members of the community of St. Mary’s of Angels Church, Singapore, led by Rev. Fr. Julian Mariyarathnam visited the High Commission to celebrate the joy of Christmas with the High Commission staff. Embracing the spirit of Christmas, the Embassy staff joined the community choirs in singing Christmas carols that resonated with the festive atmosphere. The arrival of Santa Claus laden with gifts was the highlight of the evening. The guests were also treated to sumptuous Christmas refreshments.
Rev. Fr. Sikstus commenced the Blessing Session arranged by the High Commission on 22 December at the Church of St. Alphonsus (Novena Church) in Singapore with the opening prayers. Following the Mass, Acting High Commissioner Ahamad Razee, welcomed those present to the special blessing Session and emphasized the importance of Christmas and the nobles' values which make up the foundation of civilized human society that the Lord Jesus Christ preached and demonstrated by practice.
While appreciating the noteworthy contributions of Sri Lankans domiciled in Singapore for the economic development of the country, the Acting High Commissioner invited all Sri Lankans to join hands and contribute with their invaluable knowledge, commitment, and untiring efforts towards strengthening economic development and prosperity of the motherland. He further highlighted that extending compassion to one another and assisting each other during this difficult time would be a salutation to the testaments of Jesus Christ.
In harmony with the festive spirit, the Sri Lankan choir from St. Mary's of Angels Church in Singapore mesmerized the audience with enchanting performances of Christmas carols in Sinhala and English.
Following the Special Blessing Session, a Sri Lankan community gathering was arranged at the Novena Church, which provided a warm atmosphere.
