Sri Lanka High Commission in Kuala Lumpur hosts Christmas Carols

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Kuala Lumpur hosted a Christmas Programme at the High Commission premises in Kuala Lumpur on 21 December 2023, marking the commencement of the Christmas festive season. This occasion was attended by the members of the Sri Lankan community, Sri Lankan-Malaysian community and business community in Kuala Lumpur.

High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Malaysia Air Chief Marshal (Rtd) Sumangala Dias and staff members lighted the traditional oil lamp at the commencement of the function. The High Commissioner highlighted the enduring principles of peace and sacrifice whilst emphasizing their universal relevance for the promotion of a peaceful and harmonious existence in todays context.

During the event, Rev. Father Gerard Steve Theraviam of the cathedral of St John the Evangelist, Kuala Lumpur shared insights into the profound meaning of Christmas, focusing on the themes of peace and humanity, followed by a dedicated Christmas prayer.

The Embassy staff captivated the audience with a rendition of popular Christmas carols in Sinhala, Tamil and English. Their multilingual performance added a festive atmosphere to the celebration.

In the spirit of Christmas, Santa Claus entertained the children and delighted them with gifts, while the Sri Lanka Mission was adorned with festive lights and an impressive Christmas tree.

The Christmas carol event served to promote unity among the diverse members of the Sri Lankan community, bringing them together to collectively enjoy the occasion in solidarity with individuals of all faiths, emphasizing the inclusive spirit of the celebration.
