Sri Lanka High Commission in Kuala Lumpur Celebrates Thai Pongal

The Sri Lanka High Commission in Kuala Lumpur celebrated Thai Pongal, the traditional harvest festival, uniting staff members and their families in a joyous occasion of cultural richness on 16 January 2024.

The vibrant celebration commenced with the traditional ritual of boiling milk, symbolizing the abundance and prosperity associated with the harvest season. Following this, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Malaysia Air Chief Marshal (Rtd.) Sumangala Dias, spoke of the diversity of Sri Lanka's multi-pluralistic society which encapsulated the essence of unity and shared heritage.

"We believe that by celebrating each other's traditions and festivities, we strengthen the bonds that tie us together as a nation," remarked High Commissioner Sumangala at the occasion.

The Thai Pongal celebration was a testament to the power of inclusivity and the significance of embracing the diverse cultural tapestry that defines Sri Lanka. The High Commission continues to prioritize such celebrations and remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering a sense of unity and reconciliation within the community.
