Sri Lanka High Commission in Islamabad celebrates the 65th Independent Day of Sri Lanka

The High Commission of Sri Lanka, Islamabad celebrated Sri Lanka 65th Independent Day on 04th February 2013 at the Chancery in Islamabad. High Commissioner, Air Chief Marshal Jayalath Weerakkody and the Staff of the High Commission organized the event with participation of Sri Lankan community. The ceremony began with hoisting of the National Flag by the High Commissioner followed by singing of the National Anthem and religious observances which included Buddhist, Hindu, Christian and Muslim.

The Independent Day Messages from H E the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Hon. Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne and Hon Minister of External Affairs, Prof. G.L. Pieris, were read.   Addressed the event by the High Commissioner commended that Sri Lanka - Pakistan relation is well developing for the benefit of two nations. At the end of the ceremony, guests were invited to enjoy a traditional Sri Lankan food included kiribath and sweetmeats.

The High Commission hosted the Reception for the National Day at Marriot Hotel, Islamabad on 07th February 2013. Heads of Mission from all Embassies and International Organizations, Political Leaders, Business Community and Sri Lankans in Pakistan were invited for the event.

Event was inaugurated by the lighting of traditional oil lamp by the Chief Guest , Minister of State for National Harmony and all Heads of Mission of the SAARC countries followed by the national anthems of two countries.
