Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Brazil, Sumith Dassanayake during his official visit to the State of Goiás in Brazil on 07 July 2023 had meetings with the Mayor of Goiánia Rogério Cruz and President of the Federation of Trade in Goods, Services and Tourism of the State of Goiás (Fecomércio-GO)Marco César Chaul and Senior Officials with a view to further expanding Political and Commercial partnerships between Sri Lanka and the State of Goiás in Brazil.
Goiás is one of the fastest developing States in Brazil with the GDP of over BRL 42 billion and a leading State in Commerce, Agriculture, Livestock, Mining and Food production etc.
The Mayor of Goiánia Rogério Cruz accepted Ambassador Dassanayake’s proposal to enter in to a ‘’Sister City’’ project between the Municipal Council of Goiania and a leading Municipal Council in Sri Lanka. The Ambassador also briefed the Mayor on Socio- Political developments being taken place in Sri Lanka, and the availability of opportunities in the fields of Trade, Tourism and Investment in Sri Lanka for the business community in the State of Goiás. The Mayor expressed his confident that the relations between Sri Lanka and the State of Goiás in multiple fields will be further strengthened following the constructive meetings the Ambassador and the team had in Goiás.
The Ambassador Sumith Dassanayake, during his meeting with the President of Federation of Trade in Goods, Services and Tourism of the State of Goiás (Fecomércio-GO) highlighted the interest of Sri Lanka to work closely with the industrial sector in the State of Goiás, especially in pharmaceutical, ICT Services, Tourism and Rubber based industries. Also explained on investment opportunities available in Sri Lanka to Brazilian investors, particularly in the Colombo Port City and the Industrial Zone in Hambantota.
Both sides agreed to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Trade, Tourism and Investment promotions between the Federation of Trade in Goods, Services and Tourism of the State of Goiás (Fecomércio-GO) and a leading Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka for which the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brazil undertook to make preliminary arrangements.
