72nd Anniversary of Independence Day of Sri Lanka was commemorated at the Sri Lanka Embassy in Yangon under the directions of Charge d’ Affaires K.H.C. Sankapali on 04 February 2020.
The function was graced by a team of Sri Lankan and Myanmar Buddhist monks with a Pirith chanting event followed by other multi-faith religious observances. The event was also embellished with Magul bera, Pooja dancing and other Sri Lankan traditional dancing items by a team brought down from Sri Lanka.
The official ceremony comprised all important components of hoisting the National Flag, singing of the National Anthem, reading the messages of the Sri Lankan dignitaries and a short remarks by the Charge d’ Affaires of the Mission.
While highlighting the importance of the Independence Day, Charge d’ Affaires Mrs. Sankapali emphasized the need to work collectively as Sri Lankans to achieve the development targets of the country. She also underlined the outcomes of the efforts made by the Embassy in the recent past and invited the Sri Lankan community to join hands with the Mission to achieve success of the planned events in the period ahead.
Refreshments were served to all the participants with Sri Lankan traditional sweets and milk rice.
