Sri Lanka Embassy in Lebanon celebrates 67th Independence Day

leb03The official ceremony of the 67th anniversary of the Independence Day of Sri Lanka was held on 04th February 2015 at the Embassy premises. The event was attended by a large gathering of the members of the Sri Lankan community in Lebanon representing the different communities in Sri Lanka and Lebanese nationals.

The ceremony commenced with hoisting of the National Flag accompanied by MagulBera followed by the singing of National Anthem of Sri Lanka. The traditional oil lamp was lit by Mrs. J.A.D.S.P.Wijegunasekara, CDA and few other Sri Lankans representing all communities. Religious observances were conducted by Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and Christian clergy. Two minutes silence was also observed in honour of national heroes who sacrificed their lives to protect the country. Independence Day messages of the President, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs were read out in Sinhala, Tamil and English languages respectively.

Addressing the gathering Mrs. J.A.D.S.P. Wijegunasekara, CDA highlighted the importance of preserving national unity and freedom that all Sri Lankans enjoy today for future generations and thanked the participants for their support to the on Embassy on all occasions.

The guests were served with traditional Sri Lankan foods including milk rice and sweet meats at the conclusion of the ceremony.
