The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brazil took part at Festival Gastronômico do Grupo AOLA 2019 (gastronomic festival), organized by the Asia-Oceania Ladies Association (AOLA) held on 21 September 2019 at Clube das Nações in Brasília.
The AOLA, is an informal group of spouses of ambassadors and the diplomatic corps based in Brasília, that represents the countries in Asia and Oceania region. The embassies that participated at the Gastronomic Festival included Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Japan, South Korea, Myanmar, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Singapore. The participants, at the event, offered wide variety of handicrafts and culinary dishes unique to the region from their respective countries to discerning visitors.
The Sri Lankan stall, in addition to displaying and offering Ceylon tea to taste, showcased authentic Sri Lankan food varieties, prepared by the Mission staff and their spouses.
The food prepared with traditionally used Sri Lankan spices to enrich dishes with aroma and flavour were admired by over 2,000 participants, mostly diplomats, public officials, journalists and the Brazilian public.
The proceeds collected from the food festival will be donated to worthy charity projects in the Federal District of Brazil by AOLA. The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brasilia regularly takes parts at promotional events of this nature as part of its public diplomacy initiatives to enhance people to people contacts between Sri Lanka and Brazil and international partners in Brasília.
