The Vesak day was celebrated at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Amman, Jordan on 18th May 2019. A large number of Sri Lankan devotees participated, cladding in full white costumes. The colourful decorations with lanterns and Buddhist flags at the Embassy premises depicted exact atmosphere of Vesak day in Sri Lanka.
Ven. Pussellayaye Chandima thero, from Papilayana Sunethra Devi Pirivena, was flown in from Sri Lanka to conduct the religious ceremony. A Sil Observation program was observed in the morning of 18th May 2019, which was attended by a large number of Sri Lankan devotees. The event included Dana, Seela and Bhavana programmes as well.
In the evening, an inter-faith religious discussion was arranged at the Embassy on the invitation of H.E. Mr. A.L.M. Lafeer, Ambassador of Sri Lanka. Ven. Pussellayaye Chandima thero, Catholic and Islamic religious representatives in Amman, Ambassadors of Thailand and Korea and their families participated at this significant gathering. The informal discussion focused on how the religious teachings should be practiced to bring peace and harmony among people of various faiths.
The inter-faith discussion was followed by Buddha Pooja and Dhamma Sermon with the presence of Ambassadors, their families, and Sri Lankan expatriates. At the end of the religious ceremonies, a special Vesak DanSal was offered for more than 500 devotees.
