Sri Lanka Embassy facilitates Donation of Medical Items from the Kuwait Red Crescent Society

The Kuwait Red Crescent Society donated urgently required medical items to help Sri Lanka Government contain the COVID 19 spread in Sri Lanka, following the recent meeting Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Kuwait U. L. Mohammed Jauhar had with Chairman of the Red Crescent Society Dr. Hilal Musaed Al Sayer.  The Jazeera Airways of Kuwait voluntarily airlifted the consignment free of charge, on an initiative of the Chief Executive Officer of Jazeera Rohit Ramachandran.

The estimated cost of the consignment is 167,918 USD which included 16 hospital beds with over-bed tables, 20 portable oxygen concentrators, 2 automatic external defibrillator, 4 patient monitors, 2 vital signs monitors, 4 high flow oxygen therapies, 5 ventilators and 100 pulse oximeters.  This consignment of medical items will further strengthen the capacity of the heath sector of Sri Lanka in its efforts to fight against the Covid 19.

The consignment of medical items, which arrived in Sri Lanka on 16th June 2021, were received by Secretary/State Ministry of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Dr. R M S K Rathnayake, Deputy Director General of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society Aruna Prasad Lekamge. The shipment of the consignment was facilitated with the assistance of Director General of African Affairs & Covid 19 Focal Point B. Kandeepan, and Minister of the Sri Lanka Embassy in Kuwait Poshitha Perera, along with  Director/Planning, State Ministry of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Asanka Maithreeratne,.

The Kuwait Red Crescent Society generously assists needy people from many countries including Sri Lanka, when their support is needed most. In the recent past, the Kuwait Red Crescent Society constructed a rehabilitation unit at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital. The unstinted cooperation from the Kuwait Red Crescent Society is always valued and appreciated by people of Sri Lanka.
