Sri Lanka Consulate General in Karachi celebrates 75th Anniversary of Independence of Sri Lanka and 75 Years of Diplomatic Relations with Pakistan  

  

The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Karachi hosted a diplomatic reception to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Independence of Sri Lanka and the 75th Anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations with Pakistan on 06 February 2023 at the Marriott Hotel in Karachi.

Chief Minister of Sindh Province Syed Murad Ali Shah was the Chief Guest and representative of the Pakistani Government at the event which was also attended by dignitaries of the Pakistan government, Consul Generals, Heads of Chambers & Associations, Vice Chancellors, important business entities, tour agents, media personnel and representatives of the Sri Lankan community.

In his congratulatory remarks, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah referred to the vibrant political and economic relations that the two countries have developed since 1948, in addition to the historical relations. He requested Pakistan nationals to make Sri Lanka one of their preferred tourist destinations.

Extending a very warm welcome to all the participants, Consul General of Sri Lanka in Karachi Jagath Abeywarna highlighted the progress made by Sri Lanka during the past 75 years in building a democratic nation and a harmonious society. He also expressed confidence that the country would overcome the current economic challenges and come back stronger this year.

The event provided an opportunity to create awareness about the improved situation in Sri Lanka and enhanced collaboration between Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

On 04 February, the Consulate General, in collaboration with the Sri Lankan community in the Sindh province, organized the National Day Celebration at the consulate premises.  The event was attended by a large number of Sri Lankans as well as several Pakistan dignitaries including the Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka for Hyderabad Mehmood Mandviwalla.

Speaking at the above event, the Consul General requested the Sri Lankan community to work in unity, leaving aside all differences to make the freedom gained more meaningful.
