China yesterday said it is ready to boost “pragmatic cooperation” in various fields with the Sri Lankan military.
Xu Qiliang, Vice Chairman of China’s Central Military Commission hailed the friendship between the two countries when Defence and Urban Development Ministry Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa called on him on Tuesday in Beijing, Xinhua reported.
He said the leaders of the two countries attach great importance to military-to-military ties and the Chinese military is willing to strengthen pragmatic cooperation in various fields with the Sri Lankan military, China’s national news agency Xinhua reported.
Secretary Rajapaksa said that Sri Lanka will continue to enhance cooperation with China to advance these military-to-military ties. During Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Colombo last week the two sides agreed to strengthen defence cooperation, and maintain the momentum of visits between the two defence authorities and military forces at all levels.
Further, the two countries agreed to intensify cooperation in military training, training of personnel and to cooperate in the areas of defence-related science and technology, exchange of military academics, and provide logistic support.
