The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka together with the United Nations Women’s Guild (UNWG) in Vienna celebrated International Women’s Day at the Vienna International Center on 08 March 2023. The event was attended by over 50 UN Women Group members.
The event commenced with a presentation on the achievements of Sri Lankan women and their contribution to the national economy of the country. The presentation was followed by a short-video narrative on Sri Lanka, highlighting the beautiful beaches, scenic mountainous regions, heritage, and religious sites.
During the tourism presentation on Sri Lanka, some of the participants shared personal experiences from their visit while others expressed eagerness to travel to Sri Lanka.
A demonstration on how to drape an “Osariya” was enthusiastically received by the guests and they also had the opportunity to watch a live preparation of Sri Lankan Kottu. Sri Lankan sweetmeats, “gnanakatha”’and “pol toffee”, together with Ceylon Tea were also served during the event.
