Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain Pradeepa Saram called on the Speaker of the Council of Representatives of the Kingdom of Bahrain Fawzia bint Abdulla Zainal on 11 December 2019. During the meeting, ways and means of intensifying the relations between the Legislatures of Bahrain and Sri Lanka were discussed. Among the initiatives considered are the exchange of visits of the Speakers and establishment and strengthening of interactions between Bahrain-Sri Lanka Parliamentary Friendship Group.
The speaker expressed the keenness to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation, calling for more coordination and exchange of expertise with Sri Lanka in various fields, particularly the parliamentary experience.
Bahrain’s Parliament elected Fawzia Zainal as the Speaker in December 2018 and was the first women to lead the Parliament of the Kingdom, and the second women to lead a Gulf-Arab parliament after UAE.
